Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
WHAT IS COGNITIVE BEHAVIOURAL THERAPY?
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a type of talk therapy that explores the link between our thoughts, emotions, physical sensations and behaviours. CBT is educative, goal oriented and structured treatment. It is focussed on present moment problems and present moment solutions. You can expect to receive homework to complete in between sessions.
Throughout your CBT sessions you can expect to learn to:
-
identify problems and build awareness of your negative thoughts and behaviour
-
be able to distinguish between facts and irrational thoughts
-
consciously challenge and reframe dysfunctional assumptions
-
be more present and kind to yourself
-
develop a more positive perspective of situations
-
be more resilient and in control of your problems
-
have tools to use in real life that help you challenge your thoughts
-
start facing your fears and stop avoiding them
